It is my goal in life to spread the SPIRIT of drumming to my community. My Bliss in life is to continue to prove a point that anyone of any age, culture and ability can
participate in community drum circles. There are no barriers.

Since the beginning of time people/communities have come together to express their feelings and to celebrate life at many different levels through drumming. Community drumming is a “Holistic” experience that improves our “body, mind and spirit” ( Christine Stevens, Upbeat Drums, California). People of all ages can be introduced to drums and percussion instruments. We live in a very stressful society and participating in drum circles is a great way to release high levels of stress. Drumming can introduce, foster and develop important skills that play an important role in our everyday lives.

In my opinion, drumming is for all ages, cultures and ability.
Your most fantastic drumcircle experience to date.
I had the great pleasure of facilitating drum circles at the XV World Transplant Games held in London Ontario, Canada in the summer of 2005.

Seven days that I will never forget. It was an incredible time of my life to see how children and their families came together to celebrate our second chance to life through organ donation. We all have been given a gift of an organ.

I had people come together from all around the world to share their spirit of life through drumming. It was so beautiful to see children arm in arm together from different parts of the world. They could not speak the same language but they expressed their feelings through participating in my Spirit of World Drum Circles.

A young boy (8 years old) who is from Egypt who now lives here in Canada had asked me for a private lesson. I will never forget this moment when he asked me a question. “Jeff do you mind if I ask you a question”, I said “sure”. What kind of transplant did you have Jeff?” I replied, “I had a kidney transplant in the year 2000.” The boy Kareem said “No way, guess what Jeff? I also had a kidney transplant “(with a huge SMILE). Kareem says, “Give me a HIGH FIVE”.

Whenever I have a bad day all I need to think about is this wonderful life moment with Kareem.

What I learned from the experience of the XV Canadian World Transplant Games:
- anyone of age, culture and ability can participate in drum circles
( a point that I continue to prove over and over again)

- no language barriers when playing the DRUM with other people (international language = DRUM)

- a great amount of emotions/feelings can be expressed through drumming

- our WORLD becomes a better place
(Rhythmical Synergy, pg. 45, Arthur Hull = DRUM CIRCLE SPIRIT)

- everyone has an inner sense of rhythm

- drum circles is the perfect environment to bring people together from all around the world to celebrate LIFE!

Spirit of World Drumming, Drum Circle Fun for All Ages

My objective in life is to provide my World Community opportunities to participate in a variety of community oriented drum circles. Drum circles are to promote education, health and well being. Most importantly an environment for everyone of all ages, cultures and especially ability to participate.

I was chosen for good reasons to struggle with major health problems so that I can relate and help people who are struggling with

Hey Jeff: It's good to hear from you. Happy winter season to you too. We have a small amount of snow but the ground isn't frozen enough for it to stay. Weather man says we are in for another storm.

I've facilitated in school settings and absolutely love it! To see the children open up to the drum and music is great. I have wanted to do some work with special needs and kids with learning disabilities. Many of the kids here are incorporated into normal classrooms with special aid teachers to assist them along with the usual teacher in the class. I wonder if they would consider just letting me work with the special needs children in a circle just for them. There is so much that I would like to do with the drums and expressive arts.....just need to be patient for all to fall into place.

Any suggestions would be welcome since you have had experience working with the special needs children. What ages have you worked with?

Blessings to you!
Leyshya

Yes Jeff, you're preachin to the choir here brother! It took cancer in my life, to show me my calling and jump-start my drumming projects. Crazy - the worst and the best thing to happen to me...
Be well,
Scott
